Utah State Governor Re-Inauguration

Poll Sound is providing the sound reinforcement for the Utah's Governor's Re-Inauguration which is taking place on Monday the 7th at the Utah State Capitol Rotunda. The event will feature the Mormon Tabernacle Choir with the Orchestra from Temple Square, a children's choir and the 23rd army band.

Providing Sound at the capitol rotunda is a challenging feat; due to the flat marble surfaces and lack of absorption the room has a 13 second decay time. To help control where the direct sound is thrown we deploy Duran Audio Intelivox steerable line array columns to cover the main seating area. To cover seating areas that are not in the pattern of the direct sound we use D&B T10 loud speakers in the pole mount configuration with the horns rotated. Taking a distributed approach to placement and using over 26 loudspeakers we are able to keep the volume of each speaker lower to keep from over exciting the room. Ground stacked L-Acoustics Kara line array modules provide the reinforcement for the Mormon Tabernacle Choir during their performance. A pair of L-Acoustics 8XT loud speakers were used as stage monitors. Due to the complications of running signal cable to some speaker locations we use a Lectrosonics IFB system to transmit directly to the speaker location.

A Yamaha CL5 mixing console is at the heart of the operation; using RIO 3224D stage boxes we are able to have physical outputs from the mixer on both sides of the building making shorter signal cable runs. And with 72 Inputs we will be able to handle the two choirs, orchestra, band and spoken word with ease. The consoles small footprint for the channel count is also very convient due to the the small amount of space available in the rotunda.

Shure KSM 32's and a HEIL PR 35 were used to mic the children's choir. A SCHOEPS Colette Microphone was used to mic the National Anthem that was sung by Governor Herberts three sons it was also used as a backup microphone for the administration of the oath of office. A Shure UHF-R Series wireless system with WL-51 Lavalier mics were used as the primary mics for the administration of the oath of office to the elected officials. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir and Orchestra came prepared with an arsenal of mics including SCHOEPS and Beyer Dynamic microphones.

Hours of tuning allows for us to achieve Audio Perfection in this venue to ensure that the event is intelligible for all who attend. The Yamaha StageMix iPAD app that remotely controls the CL5 mixer allows for us to go to each speaker zone and set individual settings for the area such as EQ, Delay and Volume Levels. Our well trained engineers use AFMG's software SysTune to help out with the tuning procedures.
