The Great Utah State Fair and Poll Sound

Poll Sound has been providing Audio Perfection consecutively for the Utah State Fair since 1946 and this year was no exception. With three stages, an arena, multi zone full grounds paging system, and dozens of specialty sound systems the fair is an event like no other.
The Grandstand Stage featured: The Plain White T's, American Pickers, Love & Theft, Bridgit Mendler, 38 Special, Crescent Super Band, Kahuna Beach Party and Ramon Ayala. It came as no surprise that all of these groups were thrilled to have a D&B J-Rig and many of the groups enjoyed taking their hand at mixing on the new Yamaha CL series consoles that were on site.
The South Plaza and Gazebo Stages had all-day every-day entertainment ranging from talent shows to full bands. Poll Sounds qualified engineers were able to please all of the entertainment and provide an accurate mix for every type of talent that showed up on the stages.
The Paging system is a massive undertaking with over 30 acres of area to cover with intelligible audio reinforcement. We use Lectrosonics IFB wireless transmitters and receivers in order to deploy the paging audio to each paging location. Community R.5HP and R.25 loudspeakers are placed in strategic locations in order to deliver optimal intelligibility and coverage of the grounds.
The Arena which had four nights of PRCA Rodeo, Horse Pulls, Truck Pulls and a Demolition derby received its audio reinforcement from an Electro Voice X-Array Sound System. This system provides High SPL with High Intelligibility for the large audiences that attended the events.
Even with the many other sound systems that we had in operation at the fair we were able to do several off site concerts and events. We provided Audio Perfection for the Beach Boys at a private party in Salt Lake City, supported the Inspire My Life tour in Tri-Cities Washington and provided sound reinforcement for the Dirty Dash.
